About event

A moment of musical pleasure and sparking joy – the greatest acoustic guitar genius of all times Tommy Emmanuel, c.g.p., is returning to Latvia on 23 October.

For everyone, who hasn’t heard Tommy’s legendary fingerstyle guitar playing in person, it is a must-see. You will be offered hours of musical pleasure and sparking joy. Emmanuel’s fingers dance on the strings at incredible speed, taking you into a whirlpool of colour and sound. His music is taking your breath, flickering and in the next moment turns into quiet and intimate melody. Tommy Emmanuel’s perfect technique and virtuosity, soulfulness, energy and unrivaled stage show is completely captivating the audience. His performances are highly appreciated both by the professional guitar players and all the regular music lovers. For example, Eric Clapton once said that Tommy is the best guitar player he has ever heard.

“Feeling the music is the most important”, – says Emmanuel. “It should make us feel. I am still playing for myself. You know why? Because I realized that if I like what I do, then I am sure you will like it too. And it has nothing to do with arrogance. It simply a quality control”.

Tommy Emmanuel started playing guitar when he was 4. He was encouraged to try guitar by another genius guitar player Chet Atkins. Tommy started his professional career when he was just 6 years old by going on tour with his family band across Australia. Over the years Emmanuel’s talent has conquered the millions of hearts far beyond Australia.

Tommy calls his playing technique simply fingerstyle. It means that he is playing both the backing and the melody (like a pianist would do on the piano). But apart from being a great guitar player, he is also a good percussionist and even singer, often surprising the audiences by effortlessly switching from strings to drums without losing the rhythm and flow of the song.

During his career Tommy Emmanuel has played together with such great musicians like Chet Atkins, Eric Clapton, Sir George Martin, Hank Marvin, Joe Walsh, Stevie Wonder, Nokie Edwards from The Ventures, Les Paul, Keith Urban, as well as Lexington, Dortmund philharmonic orchestra and Western Australian Symphony Orchestra. He also played at the Closing Ceremony of 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.

Since 1984 Tommy Emmanuel has been many times awarded with various musical awards and titles of the best guitar player both in his homeland Australia and abroad, has been twice nominated to Grammy’s and has released a countless number of music albums, the latest of which was released in 2020.
