Riga Music Legends

About event

In celebration of Riga’s 818 birthday and under celebration of Riga City Festival 2019 orchestra “Rīga” is welcoming everyone to recall Riga’s legends – composers and other Rigans who made Latvia’s name heard around the globe. The orchestra is offering pieces by Richard Wagner, Jurjānu Andrejs, Jāzeps Vītols, Jānis Āre, Imants Kalniņš, Raimonds Pauls and other composers who left a mark in the history of Riga. The musical story will also touch upon film director Sergejs Eizeinšteins, chess player Mihails Tāls, film director Eduards Smiļģis, speedwalker Jānis Daliņš, writers Aleksandrs Čaks, Ojārs Vāciets and Imants Ziedonis, as well as other Riga’s legends. On stage with the orchestra “Rīga” there will be also lead singers Beāte Zviedre, Ieva Parša, Daumants Kalniņš and Emīls Kivlenieks. Dancers Reinis Rešetins and Egija Abaroviča will add some action to the concert. Conductor: Valdis Butāns.

We chose a very special place for this concert: the new culture venue Hanzas Perons that in the course of Riga City Festival will open its doors to the public for the first time and will be filled with sound of a public concert for the first time.
